• MCT-9401 & MCT-4818 MC Step-up Transformers

Transformers that diligently step up the MC cartridge signal.

Since the signal generated by a moving coil cartridge is of low electrical value, it is very prone to loss as it passes through all the elements of an audio system. The sound becomes colored, unnatural, and unlike the original recording. Having taken this challenge under careful consideration, Audio Tekne has created the ultimate fidelity MC step-up transformer.

Generally speaking, the low-level signal generated by an MC cartridge is easily influenced by electromagnetic waves and mechanical vibrations, resulting in sound quality deterioration. Audio Tekne employs a 3-layered supermalloy shield to protect against magnetic flux, and a solid carbon block chassis to address mechanical vibrations.

MCT-4818 was developed on special order as an updated, improved version of MCT-9401. It not only has a core consisting of 80% supermalloy, but additionally adopts a special winding technique that ensures remarkably natural sound free of coloration, unlike anything you have ever experienced. At first, such unprecedented lack of distortion can be mistaken for lack of impact in the high range. Continued listening will bring about an appreciation of the sound’s pristine, natural quality.

If you have any doubts, discontinue use for a while. You will notice how different and surprisingly noisy sound becomes.
